The lack of interest towards physical education is the reason behind Tailevu’s withdrawal from the 2009 Fiji Primary School Athletics Chow Games.
The spirit of competing in the Fiji final has dampened after three out of the 24 registered schools took part in the Tailevu Zone meet at the TFL National Stadium last month.
While a collective decision to withdraw from the national championship was decided after a meeting last week, Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Association executive Patrick Bower said that their exclusion is now a concern for the association.
“The student needs time out of the classroom and physical education should also be strengthen in rural schools,” Bower said.
“Only three schools were part of the zone meet and it is pointless for these schools to compete in the Fiji final because there was no competition within the zone.”
Bower is hoping that the Tailevu Primary School Athletics association will revive the participation of students in the Chow Games before the interest die out.
The FMF Chow Games is set for November 20 – 21 at the TFL National Stadium in Suva.
