Premier league final drags on
November 07, 2009

The finalists of the 2009 Premier division National League will be known later as one zone final ended in a 1-1 draw while a protest has been filed in the other.

In the Viti Levu final, defending champion Tailevu Naitasiri came from a goal down to hold Vatukaula thanks to a Kaliova Tivalu goal.

Striker Lemeki Lorokalisoa had opened the account for Vatukaula early in the second half.

The 1-1 draw now takes the playoff into the third match as the first leg between the two sides at Theodore Park a fortnight ago also ended with a similar score line.

In the Vanua Levu final, Savusavu recorded a 1-0 victory over Dreketi at Ganilau Park to qualify for the main final but the boys from the hidden paradise will have to hold for a while as Dreketi had lodged a protest after last weekend’s encounter between the two sides which ended in a goal-less draw.

Nippy striker Johnny Singh scored the lone goal of the match in the 10th minute of the first spell to send the home fans into frenzy.

Dreketi president Ami Chand is adamant that they will collect three points from their protest and march into the final of the competition.

“We played well but luck did not favor us this afternoon against Savusavu.”

“Although we have lost this match, we are confident of winning our protest against Savusavu as they fielded an unregistered player.”

Savusavu president Jabid Hussain on the other hand saluted his players for the superb performance against the IDC champs and is confident of a better outing against the Viti Levu champion.

“We played well and should have scored more goals in the match but our strikers were not on target.”

“Savusavu will surely play in the final as the protest by Dreketi does not carry any substance but we will just wait for the Fiji FA ruling” he said.

The decision on the protest is likely to be made during the Board Of Control meeting of Fiji Football Association on November 15.
