Fiji to feature in Suva 7s
November 02, 2009

Fiji 7s coach Iliesa Tanivula will field a team in this weekend’s Suva 7s at the TFL Stadium as he desperately seeks more game time for his players as December 4 looms for the kick off of the 2009/10 IRB World 7s Series in Dubai.

The squad currently in their fourth week of camp after undergoing a full week of recover last week is back to business on the field as they gear up for game mode.

“Right now, playing in as many tournaments as we can is important to me,” the former Auckland Blues player said.

“We have done the high intensity training and recover, now its time to put our game faces on and do some hard hitting on the field.”

The Suva 7s kicks off the Suva Rugby Union’s Rugby Festival, promising to be the biggest tournament in Fiji.

“It’s a great opportunity as any to get the boys exposed. It will definently boost a lot of big teams and we are looking forward to learning from them.”

Injuries concern Tanivula but he believes this is out of his control, stressing getting sufficient game time is important before the Series.

“That’s always a probability, no coach or player can run away from that. But we have talked to the boys, told them to take it easy and play safe.”

“The 7s squad has more then 30 players so replacements is not a worry for me, all these players earned their way into the squad and boost a lot talent,” Tanivula added.

He is expected to name his team for the Suva 7s by Wednesday.
