Fiji Bati finish third after defeating Tonga
October 31, 2009

The Vodafone Fiji Bati team have finished at third place in the Pacific Rugby Cup in Papua New Guinea after they defeated Tonga in the playoffs 26-16 this afternoon.

The Tim Gilogley-coached side led 10-4 at halftime after veteran and assistant captain Iowane Divavesi and Jo Ravueta scored a try each with one conversion from skipper Wes Naiqama.

Ravueta ran in another try in the second half with Newcastle Knights wing, Akuila Uate contributing two tries to seal Fiji's first victory in the tournament.

Rajesh Singh, Fiji National Rugby League executive was thrilled with the teams performance saying they had achieved what they had set out to do.

"They had a goal to set and their prides to win back and they did that today."

Fiji lost out on a chance to play in the Four Nations next year against World champions New Zealand, Australia and England.
