Bruised Bati aim to end of on a high October 30, 2009
Bruised from its shock loss to the Cook Islands last weekend, the Fiji Bati is desperate to claim the third spot in the Pacific Cup when they play Tonga for the third and fourth place playoffs tomorrow.
The Wes Naiqama skippered side’s hopes of winning the tournament was dashed when they lost to Cook Islands last week, they however have a chance to redeem themselves against the Tongans.
“Atmosphere in camp is pretty serious,” Fiji National Rugby League patron, Rajesh Singh said.
“Right now, the only aim is to win. The boys have talked about what they want and losing is not an option.”
Fiji Bati coach, Tim Gilogley has named a strong side to face the Tongans. Naiqama, Akuila Uate and Mike Ratu are the experienced hands on deck and Flying Fijians rep Alipate Tani moved from the bench to start.
“We have a lot of experience in the team through our NRL and Super League players as well as Lepani Waqa,” Singh said.
“The bench is filled with impact players that we know we can rely on, hard hitters like Puna Rasaubale, Iowane Divavesi and Asaeli Saravaki.”
Naiqama who believes the team can taste their first victory tomorrow said this time, they were not going to let their fans and families down.
“Playing away from home is always hard for any team, we would love to have the support here with us physically but this is all part and parcel of the game. We have been blessed to have messages from Fiji and Australia coming through and boosting our preparations. We will do our best for all those that have sacrificed for us and we promise to do all of you proud.”
The game kicks off at 5pm tomorrow.
