Injuries concern Domoni ahead of Northern tour October 27, 2009
Flying Fijians coach Sam Domoni’s biggest concern now as they count down to the Northern tour next month is injuries.
Domoni has most of his team currently active in the Northern hemisphere playing for their respective clubs.
Players like Akapusi Qera, Napolioni Nalaga, Filimoni Delasau, Mosese Rauluni, Kameli Ratuvou and Nicky Little are regular starters for their respective club games.
“That’s every coaches concern I guess, their biggest concern,” Domoni revealed.
“The hard thing about is that it’s not up to me, I have no control nor do the players themselves have any control of injuries.”
Domoni said he was praying and keeping his fingers crossed that there will be no injury list before they fly out to the United Kingdom on November 5.
“Hopefully luck is on our side and we have an injury free squad when we all meet up in the UK. Right now I am just working on the areas I have control of like the local boys and their preparation.”
The Flying Fijians local squad played a warm-up match against the Army team last week, Domoni happy to have gauged each player’s performance.
“That was what I wanted, everything we had been doing so far at camp was premeditated so it was good to see what they had learnt put into the game.”
“There are some improvements I have stressed to them, discipline being a major part of it. There are always things we need to brush up on, no team is perfect. The 10 local boys in the Flying Fijians squad have been improving fast, these boys are dedicated to this call put on them to represent their country.”
Fiji meets Scotland on November 15, takes on Ireland on November 22 and Romania a week later.
