Naiqama, Uate help Knights to victory
August 23, 2009

Newcastle Knights’ Fijian duo, Wes Naiqama and Akuila Uate, helped their side dash the Cowboys’ dream of reaching the semi-finals in a 32-26 defeat at Energy Australia Stadium last night.

Naiqama, who skippered the Vodafone Fiji Bati team in the 2007 World Cup, scored a try while fellow Bati team mate Uate helped set up a try in the grueling game which saw Knights seal their spot in the top five of the NRL table.

Uate set up the Knights first try of the game after he offloaded to veteran Adam MacDougall.

Naiqama sealed the Knights win after four tries from Knights Adam MacDougall (2), Chris Houston and Jarrod Mullen.

Next week, the Knights tackle the Raiders on Monday night and hope to maintain their journey to a spot in the final.

Meanwhile, another Fiji Bati rep Jarryd Haynes continued his fine form for the Parramatta Eels in round 24 of the competition.

The Eels defeated Wests Tigers 26-18.

In other results, St George Illiwarra Dragons lost to Brisbane Broncos 2-12 and Penrith Panthers thrashed South Seas 40-10.
