Navua eyes win as wedding gift
July 04, 2009

The Navua football side will gun for a victory over Rewa in this Sunday’s National Soccer League tournament to give its defender Rajneel Chand a perfect wedding gift.

Chand, 24 will tie the knot this Sunday at Rovadrau settlement in Navua and the team will play for nothing less than a win to bring more joy and happiness in the life of the newly weds.

Chand made his debut for Navua in 2007 after featuring for senior division side, Tailevu North for a couple of seasons.

He made it big in 2008 after breaking into the national senior side and the Fiji U23 team which featured in the OFC Olympic Games qualifiers in Lautoka.

Navua soccer boss Anil Sharma said the boys have decided to play for Rajneel this Sunday as they want to give him a perfect wedding gift.

“We have been giving Rajneel and his family all the support and backing for the wedding as he is a valuable asset of the team.”

“The entire team will also be present during the ‘Pritibhoj’ ceremony on Saturday night to show our support for the Chand family.”

“As for the training, the boys got back to serious business this week after all the merry making after the Fiji FACT win,” Sharma said.

“Coach Gurjit Singh has been working hard to bring the players back on par after the celebrations and things are going on well. We will miss our top goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau who is with Fiji FUTSAL team but have Benaminio Mateinaqara to fill in his shoes.”

“Usaia Tadu and Solomon Islanders James Naka and George Luwi will also not be featuring as Tadu is injured while Naka and Luwi are in the Solomon Islands.

"Rewa has shown in the Fiji FACT what it is capable of doing and we will not be taking them lightly at all.”

“They are always tough to beat on their home turf and our last encounter against them ended in a 1-1 draw so we really will need to put in a lot of effort if we are return with three points from Ratu Cakobau Park.” Sharma added.

The Southern Forest Navua- VIVA Rewa match kicks off at 3pm on Sunday.
