Bula contestants to boost Nadi Boxing Promotion
July 04, 2009

In a bid to boost the interest and draw out spectators to Fiji’s third boxing promotion under the new Boxing Commission, 2009 Bula Festival contestants will be ring card girls at the Prasad’s main event boxing promotion in Nadi next weekend.

With the event being a comeback after a lapse of four years in the Jetset town, promoter Ashwin Prasad is expecting a bigger and better turn out from all western supporters.

These supporters will also get a chance to see seven professional and three amateur fights at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

“I’m looking forward to good turn out to my first promotion and I want the western fans to come and see the best fight which is something that’s worth seeing. We’re bringing back a promotion in Nadi after a lapse of four years and I’m confident that this will be a draw out because it coincides with the annual Bula Festival,” Prasad said.

Eager for a rematch after losing on split point decision in 2005, Australian boxer Gary Comer is keen to knockdown Fiji’s Golden Boy Joy Ali in the main bout.

And his undefeated younger brother Junior Farzan Ali will take on Waisake Ratu who is yet to hang his glove if he is defeated in their super Lightweight fight.

Pita Tabuarua will take on Sailasa Moko in the Middleweight fight while Kunal Nair and Mohammed Shameem will box it out for the Lightweight category. The last two professional fights will see Aiyaz Ali take on Rocky Kumar in the super Featherweight and Azmat Manna fight Ritesh Gaundar in the Featherweight division.

Weigh in will be held at the Curry House in Nadi on Friday, July 10 at 1pm while the event is set for 4.30pm the day after at Prince Charles Park.
