Fiji Football ranked 101 on world stage
July 02, 2009

The latest FIFA World ranking released earlier today sees Fiji moving to 101st spot, the best placing in recent times.

Despite not featuring in any international fixture this season, the South Seas Islanders have jumped up seven spots and are just a place behind top Oceania nation, New Zealand which is placed 100.

The All Whites after their dismal performance in the recent Confederations Cup in South Africa have dramatically fallen 18 places to lead their arch rivals Fiji, by just a place.

A former Oceania giant, Australia which is now in the Asian region has jumped 13 places and is currently placed 16th after its impressive form in the recent world cup qualifiers. The current ranking is one of the best ranking ever for the Socceroos.

Vanuatu has taken the second spot in the Pacific despite falling a place from 140-141 and has displaced New Caledonia which has fallen 16 places and is currently ranked 142.

The Solomon Islands are placed 163 (+1), Samoa 176 (+1), Tonga 184 (+4), Guam 188 (no change), Cook Islands 188 (+14), Tahiti 191 (-2), American Samoa 203 (no change) and Papua New Guinea 203 (no change).

On the world front, Confederations Cup champions, Brazil has displaced Spain from the top spot to become the number one country in the world after jumping from the fifth spot.

Spain is second and is followed by Netherlands, World champs Italy, Germany, Russia, England, Argentina, France and Croatia in the top ten.

The next FIFA/Coca Cola World Ranking will be released on August 5.
