Western boxing promotion still on: Prasad July 02, 2009
Despite rumours of its postponement, the Fiji Boxing Commission’s first ever promotion to be staged in Fiji’s western division is all set to go ahead says promoter Ashwin Prasad.
The Prasad Boxing Promotion is Fiji’s third promotion since the implementation of the new Boxing Commission and Prasad has confirmed that fans in the western division are eager to catch a glimpse of the event which is held in conjunction with the opening of the Bula Festival in Nadi.
“After a lapse of four years, we’re glad to revive Boxing in the jet set town,” Prasad said at a press conference on Tuesday.
“This promotion is now approved by the Fiji Boxing Commission after speculations that it will not be happening so I’m urging all fans down in the West to come and be part of this boxing promotion.”
Fiji’s Golden Boy Joy Ali will take on former Australian five-time champion Gary Comer in the main bout while six professional bouts and three amateur fights will be fought as curtain raisers.
“The main bout is a very interesting fight because Ali has defeated Comer before in 2005. However, Comer is eager to knock down Ali in a rematch since he won in a split decision. The amateur fights will be an East versus West contest which will feature amateur boxers from the west taking on young boxers in Suva who are trained by the legendary former Boxing champ Sunia Cama.”
The Prasad Boxing Promotion will be held at the Vodafone Prince Charles Park in Nadi on July 11.
