Tough competition for Hobie Challenge July 01, 2009
Tournament coordinator Torika Brodie is expecting a completely different outcome at the end of the sixth course of the 2009 Suzuki Hobie Challenge.
While Fiji had a good start 90 minutes after the race, Brodie confirmed that six Fiji fleet are leading the pack with Australian David Lovell settling on seventh place.
“What’s more exciting for me is the leader of the pack and they are two Fijian youth team skipper Rusi and his crew Moave,” Brodie said.
“These two competitors have shown a lot of improvement over the past few days and I have high expectation towards them. The local competitors are coming out strong but at the moment I can’t rule out anything as yet because it’s a long course race from Leleuvia to Naigani and back to Leleuvia.”
Meanwhile, 15 boats started this morning on light Southerly winds which is expected to increase later. Fiji’s John Philip led the start when the fleet split into groups of three. Brodie added that it will be interesting to see which way was favoured.
