Digicel to co-sponsor Pacific Nations Cup
June 06, 2009

Digicel Fiji will co-sponsor the 2009 IRB Pacific Nations Cup tournament in association with current major sponsor ANZ Bank.

Fiji is hosting the tournament which will be spread across three match venues- the TFL National Stadium (Suva), Lawaqa Park (Sigatoka) and Churchill Park (Lautoka), beginning on June 12.

The fiercely contested Pacific battles will see Fiji face Samoa, Tonga, Japan, as well as 2006 and 2007 champions, the Junior All Blacks.

“Digicel is very excited about its involvement with the 2009 Pacific Nations Cup, particularly as it is being hosted here in Fiji” said Digicel Fiji CEO John Delves.

“We are very proud of our association with the IRB and we are looking forward to some great rugby during this exceptional tournament.”

“Digicel’s sponsorship of the Pacific Nations Cup adds to our growing portfolio of rugby sponsorships in Fiji and the South Pacific which affords us a great opportunity to engage customers in shared passions,” Delves continued on the company website.

The two opening round matches will be played outside of Fiji with Samoa hosting the Junior All Blacks in Apia and Tonga entertaining the Fijians in Nuku’alofa the following day, before the tournament moves to Fiji.

Digicel’s sponsorship of Fiji’s national rugby tournament, the Digicel Cup, is currently on break ahead of the Pacific Nations Cup, and will recommence on Saturday July 4th with Round 8.

The Digicel Cup final, held in August, promises to be very exciting again this year as last year’s winners Nadi fight to retain the Digicel Cup.
