Fiji 7s coach Waisale Serevi has a problem to solve in South Africa before the start of this weekend’s George 7s-the second leg of the 2008/09 IRB 7s World Series.
He has to customise his players to different interpretation of rules in the tournament especially by referees from the Northern Hemisphere.
Fiji dropped out of the Dubai Cup quarters to eventual winners South Africa.
The maestro pointed the fingers at the referee saying some decisions cost Fiji’s scoring chances especially with the use of the new ELV Laws.
“I have discussed that with the Italian referees and some other refs from the Northern Hemisphere because we have different interpretation of rules. We cannot control that but we have to prepare ourselves and get accustomed to the rules and different environments this weekend,” he added.
“I saw what happened. Emosi Vucago was tackled without the ball on the scrum and the ball was not out of the scrum yet. We are not saying that we cannot do it and we lost because of this, but we have to work hard to avoid same weaknesses,” the 7s legend said.
The team went through two grueling sessions today, ironing combination to finish on top in George on Saturday.
There’s injury scare to Lepani Nabuliwaqa and Rupeni Nasiga are expected to heal and improve in the next two days.
Fiji and Scotland opens the tournament at 9.37pm on Friday.
