Suva, Fiji’s women’s soccer champions have a goal to score in this weekend’s Women’s Inter District Championship in Ba.
The Capital City ladies want to create history by winning the title three times in a row.
Coach Lavenia Yalovi believes the competition will be tough but remains adamant the girls in white will prevail in the three day tourney.
“It’s always difficult when you are the defending champions because all teams want to beat you,” she said.
“We have seven national reps who will guide the younger girls in the tournament.”
Yalovi sees Tavua as a threat in their pool as the westerners are also laced with national reps and has been a very consistent side in past women’s outings.
“Tavua has the services of Solo Nakulanisa who is a very good coach and their players are fit, experienced and should give us good competition.”
“We are not underestimating Rewa and Navua because Rewa has combined with Tailevu and will be a strong team while Navua will be unpredictable,” added the Suva school teacher.
Top Fiji goalkeeper Mereoni Uluiviti is expected to lead Suva in the tournament.
Other big names in the side include Kini Ravai, Kuini Rao, Arieta Ali, Adilaite Marama, Titilia Marama.
Suva has two Indian girls who have been kept as the secret weapons of the team.
School students Evelyn Narayan and Sherin Singh are classy and skilful attackers.
Suva plays Rewa in its first match on Friday at 4.30pm.
