Koto gets forth recognition in Karate championship
December 01, 2008

The stand out performance of Netani Koto had him recognized in the forth recognition awards after the Fiji Karate Federation end of the year club competition at Yat Sen School Hall last Saturday.

The forth recognition award is only given to the athlete who has endured much in the sport, served through a roller coaster rise of Karate’s ups and downs, and whose overall attitude speak Karate qualities.

FKF president Makarita Lenoa said that Koto who is now known Sensei Koto deserves to be recognised.

“Sensei Koto is still a student of Karate even though he is an official,” Lenoa said.

“He started his martial arts stint with taekwondo before shifting to Karate. He has been with Karate since it started in Fiji more than 10 years ago. Sensai Koto served through and we would like to give him the recognition he deserves. He lives the qualities of Karate nurtured in a person.”

27 athletes from three dojos competed during the final club competition with China club taking home the Adi Litia Ravoka Cork Memorial Cup after winning 38 medals.

Karate Nadi settled in second place with 23 medals while Girmit Centre Lautoka formerly known as Red Cross Lautoka claimed third standing with seven medals.

“The club competition has improved. I was impressed with the young athletes keeping to the rules of the competition. Overall, the athletes who have gone abroad to participate at international championship have lifted the standard of Karate through their performance at national level.

“Sports help the overall development. The Karateka will need to transfer their Karate qualities which are discipline, obedience, loyalty, respect, strength – outside of the sport to their studies and wherever they are in the future.”

Meanwhile, the first recognition award went to Shawn Yuen (China Club, Suva), Sakaraia Racika (Karate Nadi), Makoto Racika (Karate Nadi), Vilimone Masikau (Karate Nadi), Bula Kidia (China club Suva).

Second recognition award: Sio Dickinson (Karate Nadi), Sandip Pala (Girmit centre Lautoka), Pita Lenoa (China Club Suva).

Third recognition award: Chelsey Yee (Karate Nadi).
