November 30, 2008

Lautoka’s GM United has progressed to the final of the 2008 National Club Championship after outclassing Blues 4-2 in the first semifinal this morning at Govind Park in Ba.

The all Lautoka clash proved to be an exciting affair as there was no love lost between the two clubs.

United’s replacement Osea Vakatalesau opened the scoring in the match in the 19th minute of the first spell after following a neat cross from Simeli Naresia.

Hardworking Blues striker Valerio Nawatu leveled scores in the 4th minute of the second spell with a beautiful free kick which United goalie Jerry Radrodro failed to judge.

Sharof Ali utilized a Isikeli Seva blunder in the 11th minute to put United back in the lead and another goal by Naresia in the 14th minute of second half took the scores to 3-1 in favor of United.

Blues pulled one back through replacement Yogesh Reddy but United striker Jone Vono Junior had the final say of the match as his header sealed the important win for United.

United boss Alvin Singh was cloud nine after the win and said they are on track to win the title this afternoon.

“I am happy with the win but there is one more important match this afternoon and we are confident of our chances.

“ The boys stuck to their game plan against Blues and I am expecting favorable result in the final also as we badly want to win the title which we lost last season after keeping it for two consecutive years, said Singh.
