Miller scoops swim awards double November 24, 2008
His standout performance at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune last month paid off after Douglas Miller, who scooped a double during the 2008 Milo Fiji Swimming Awards night in Nadi last Saturday.
The Triton club swimmer picked up Fiji’s Male Swimmer of the Year title and the best freestyle swimmer after breaking his personal best during the Youth Games in India.
Swimming Fiji president Dennis Miller was elated about the response towards the annual event, saying that the event was to reward swimmers for their outstanding performance this season.
“The turnout was great and its good to see that the young swimmers have been recognised for their hard work this season,” Miller said.
“We have created a good benchmark during the Commonwealth Y0uth Games and our national short course championship has rounded off well with some interesting performances. I'm looking forward to a bigger and better-organised event next year.”
Tieri Erasito, also from the Triton Swimming club, picked up the best Female Swimmer of the Year award while the Nadi Makos club won the club of the year title.
The best coach of the year went to Mako’s club coach Maftoa Pene and Cheyenne Rova from the Barracudas Swimming club was crowned the best Backstroke Swimmer of the Year.
Toma Pene of Babale club took out the award for the Butterfly Swimmer of the year while the best swimmer went to Lucy Joyce of Makos club.
Babale’s William Domonatani picked up the top award for the Breastroke swimmer of the year and Gordon Thompson was awarded the best junior swimmer of the year.
