Tennis players look for exposure November 17, 2008
The Fiji Tennis Association has taken another step forward to expose its potential players to top level competition in New Zealand.
This follows the selection of three under-13 players in the International Pacific Junior team that will tour New Zealand on December 6.
After an outstanding performance in the Oceania Closed Junior Championship held in Lautoka last August, FTA have selected Lautoka based Devin Khatri, Tarani Kamoe and Annie Shannon for the tour.
The trio will be part of the squad comprising top players from the region and FTA president Naga Reddy said that they were fortunate to be part of the squad as the trip will boost their skills and experience.
“Its great to see that most of our players have impressed the selectors and this is a reflection of the ongoing awareness created for the sport,” Reddy said.
“The chance to travel to New Zealand to partake in big tournaments come once in a while and this opportunity should never be wasted. This is an opportunity for exposure as we hardly get international players over and I'm grateful to the ITF for funding our players’ trip.”
The three-week trip to New Zealand will see the International Pacific Junior team take on big teams like New Zealand. They will also attend clinics hosted by the New Zealand Tennis Association.
ITF regional coach Taylor Wain and regional development officer Dan O’Connel will coach the team.
The team leaves on December 6 and returns on December 23.
