Sugar City boys snatch title from MIB October 12, 2008
Lautoka midfielder Malakai Waqa scored the only goal to help the Sugar City boys hoist the Inter District Championship Cup.
The Sugar City boys beat Ba in a pulsating finale, after the Men In Black thrashed Labasa 3-0 in the semis.
The 24-year-old Waqa, who has been a seasoned campaigner for the Blues, pulled off an awesome goal in the 40th minute of play when he hammered a piledriver from 20 metres out to beat Jone Sorolo for the 1-0 lead.
“I can’t express how I feel at the moment,” a soft-spoken Waqa said after the game.
“I was confident I would score that goal, I just took the chance when the opportunity arose and made good use of it,” he said
“We were focused coming into the final and made sure we enjoyed ourselves playing Ba," he said
Lautoka captain Jone Vono Jnr heaped praise on his team for displaying a lot of character, saying that even when they were a man down after rugged defender Peni Finau was red-carded his team played as a unit and worked hard to keep the Ba onslaught at bay.
“I am happy for them, the win is dedicated to their hard work and determination throughout the tournament, we deserved to win because we were more win hungry,” Vono said after the game.
Both sides were locked 0-0 at the breather.
It was not all plain sailing for the new champions as hosts Ba made them work hard.
Ba skipper Pita Bolatoga marshalled his side well as they launched a number of attacks on the Lautoka goal with big guns Avinesh Waran Swamy, Shalen Lal, Tuimasi Manuca and Alvin Singh probing for an opening.
However, some excellent goalkeeping from Australian import Ali Cerm Akbar and the unmovable Peni Finau at last man down provided the impenetrable brick wall defence for the Blues.
o mr thakur sahiba. u get ur facts right mate. Ba won 2 major tournaments and qualified for IDC final with labasa players scoring. is that merit??? Maciu is from labasa ok. u sound like raymond - ba ke chamcha log. hate or love us we dont give a damn bro. we will keep coming. rok sako to rok lo!!!

Hi guys, I am not a Ba or Lautoka fan. I just dont understand why Ba fans keep on saying Lautoka won because of Ba players in their team. Does Ba not have outside players? The outside players are the ones who have been bringing victory to Ba this year, otherwise Ba was no show without them in Fiji Fact. Why do you guys forget this. Also, the 3 Ba players in the Lautoka side never even played to the final whistle. Leone was not in the game, Finau was red carded and Osea injured and substituted! Lautoka's very own player scored the winner!
Ba fans, please accept the fact the Lautoka has won and dont relate their victory to origin from Ba, as Ba's 2008 achievements itself has been heavily reliant on non-Ba players.

Mr Daud.
u need to check for yr record;
Lautoka had 4 Ba players; 3 current NSW Rep players.
And for Ba to reach finals and match and lose by one goal with local players is a big achievement.
Ba wud it back with the CVC SERIES.
Ba is and wud always be the champs of FJ soccer.
All districts know that.
And for yr record if Lautoka lost, how wud they gave accounted to the tax office the cost of the imports, plus Peni FINAU and Osea.
MIB you irresistable.

Congratulations to Lautoka. You certainly were technically superior than Ba. Labasa faulted and went down 3-0 to Ba, but you did not. All the teams have something to learn from Lautoka.

Come on ashwinilesh1, u know better than that, why are u still fretting about labasa, its time to move on and bring imports from overseas to hepld your team to win tournaments. Labasa might bring in Roanldino and who knows David bekham in the next tournament. Nevertheless congrets lautoka for winning IDC with the imports.

Ba to Ba hai yaar !! The win for Lautoka could not have been any better. Congrats Ltka. People say that once Ba reaches the final, its impossible to beat them. Well, Ltka has just shown the people of Fiji that anything can be achieved with the right set of mind and total dedication. It just shows that Lkta wanted to win, badly. Ba wasnt that hungry. Also, the fact is that LTKA won - with or without any imports. After all Ba has been winning with LA imports, isnt it ? Ba team should accept defeat. End of Story.

Fellow Lautoka fans, let's hope this will be a repeat of 1984 when Sam Work scored 2 to beat BA in the IDC final. A win for Lautoka is a win for all the other districts in Fiji soccer.

Congrats Ltka, Well done Ba, although im not a fan of either team, i would like to tell "Daud" that BA does not need other players from other district to win, they win on merit. As for saying that BA wins with other players what about Labasa - taniela waqa, alvin avinesh and joesph nimariau r from other districts, maciu started his career with suva when he was in secondary school. get ur facts right< Labasians r sore losers, no wonder they r hated in vitilevu

DAUD this is just to support my comments.
Lautoka coach Dennis Singh on the game against Ba this afternoon:
%u201CWe are expecting a tough final against Ba but we are confident of our chances%u201D
On the impact that brothers Leone Vurukania, Peni Finau and Osea Vakatalesau will have in the final for Lautoka.
%u201CThe experience and knowledge these boys have of how Ba plays on their home ground is invaluable, they know how to tune to that sort of game, they will be directing play when we take on Ba on the field,%u201D
MIB brothers.

Blues name will vanish in few days but BAs name will always be on top cos we still playing football(soccer). Oceania League to follow ...
Oh and some one said that BAs dominance is over...first of all he knows this much that BAs the team that has been dominating all these years ..well great on you man, atleast you know this much.. but jus to refresh your mind ..the dominance is still there
CVC will decide the fate.
"he who laughs last, laughs the loudest"....lautokas victory is only shortlived, BA will again be making the headlines as usual
