Downpour dampens IDC fever
October 10, 2008

A late afternoon downpour in the Soccer mad township of Ba proved to dampen the 2008 Inter District Championship fever as teams struggled to maintain play on the slippery and wet turf at Govind Park.

Labasa and Nadi played to a scoreless draw as missed chances from both sides were attributed to the heavy and slippery underfoot.

Fans who came to watch the much anticipated match of the day, had to squeeze in the stand as they tries to remain dry and watch the game.

Labasa had its chances to go ahead in the game but the slippery turf from the previous hour’s heavy downpour seemed to drive the strikers in Roy Krishna and Joseph Nimariau off course.

The same case was also for Nadi as Ratu Viliame Toma and Co found themselves in perfect shooting range but often missed as the ball stuck to the heavily water drenched surface.

While Lautoka didn’t have any problems finding the back of the net in the next game, when, it walloped Nasinu 3-0, Suva and Rewa were goal shy in the second last game of the day.

The Rewa vs Suva game became the fifth fixture in the 2008 IDC to finish in a draw.

While the Delta Tigers were tipped to win the game against the Capital City boys after drawing with Nadroga 2-2 earlier in the day could not put it together in the heavy conditions.

But attempts from Lorima Dau, Samuela Vula and Co proved futile as they could not find the mark.

The game ended in a nil- all draw.

The Ba vs Navua game is currently underway.
