Lautoka holds Ba to 1-1 draw
October 09, 2008

Defending IDC champs Ba were held to a one all draw by its neighbours Lautoka in the Courts Homecentres IDC feature match last night at Govind Park in Ba.

The match proved to be a thriller with fans filling up the stands to back their teams with lung power.

Ba started off as favourites and made early attempts on the opposition goalmouth which kept the fans of the host team on their feet but it was Lautoka’s Valerio Nawatu who did the damage midway into the first spell after combining well with his captain Jone Vono Junior and slotting the ball past Jone Sorolo to shock the Ba bench.

However, the Blues celebrations were cut short two minutes later as lethal striker Maciu Dunadamu combined well with his strike partner Pita Bolaitoga to net the equalizer and bring life back into the match.

The teams rested 1-1 at the breather and the second half became more exciting and tensed as both started their search for the second and winning goal.

Australian players of Ali Cem Akbal (goalkeeper), Goran Subara (defender) and Nikola Zonjic (midfielder) had to work overtime to keep the Ba attack at bay and likewise the ‘Men In Black’ also had to time and again adopt a defensive approach to contain the fast Lautoka attackers.

Tension was high all along the match which saw referee Rakesh Varman flashing a total of five yellow cards in the match.

Ba comes up against Navua in the last and feature match of Day 2 while Lautoka will face Tavua in its clash at 12pm.

The teams:
Ba- Jone Sorolo, Malakai Kanihewe, Jone Vesikula, Ronald Lawrence (C) (Avinesh Swamy), Malakai Tiwa, Shamil Rao, Keni Doidoi (Tuimasi Manuca), Pita Bolaitoga, Maciu Dunadamu, Ronil Kumar, Alvin Singh.

Lautoka- Ali Cem Akbal,Goran Subara, Ilaitia Nukurawa, Marika Madigi, Jone Vono Junior (C), Arvindra Naidu (Shalesh Sami), Niumaia Tagi, Nikola Zonjic, Leone Vurukania, Valerio Nawatu (Samuela Drudru), Malakai Waqa.
