Bayliss wins third Superbike crown October 06, 2008
Australia's Troy Bayliss won his third Superbike world title after finishing third at Magny-Cours in France on Sunday.
Bayliss, riding a Ducati, claimed the overall victory with the 14th and final round of the championship still to come in Portimao, Portugal, on November 2.
Japan's Noriyuki Haga, in second spot overall, cannot mathematically catch him.
Bayliss said afterwards: "This last championship has been up and down the whole year. Halfway through it, though, we were very confident that everything was looking good.
"I really wanted to win (the title) on three different kinds of bikes. I had a lot of pressure, a lot of things on my mind the whole year. It's been pretty strenuous."
