Lions beat Lautoka, await Ba in decider
September 21, 2008

The Labasa soccer side overcame a tough Lautoka challenge to win 2-0 at Churchill Park and set a date with its arch rivals Ba to decide this season’s Super Six winner.

The Vodafone sponsored Babasiga Lions scored a goal in each spell to ensure the final and much anticipated fixture turns out to be a thriller next weekend.

18 year old Labasa Sangam College student, Amani Makoe scored the lone goal of the equally contested first spell after following a rebound off the Lautoka defence from a Labasa corner kick and slotting the ball beyond the reach of veteran Lautoka goalie Laisenia Tuba.

Lautoka toiled hard in the second spell and played constructively but failed to find the net as strikers Samuela Drudru and Jone Vono Junior missed from close range.

Ni Vanuatu striker Joseph Nimariau also missed a golden opportunity and was replaced by Kushal Naicker who turned out to be the super sub having scored the second and the most decisive goal of the match.

Fiji soccer wonder boy Roy Krishna who time and again set up the attacking moves for the northerners found Naicker in the 83rd minute after mesmerizing his opponents with his dazzling footwork.

Labasa after the win is leveled at the top of the points table with Ba on 21 points, making the final fixture of the season between the two sides most exciting and entertaining.

The defending champions will need a win on its home soil next week to retain its title while a draw would be enough to hand Vodafone Ba the title as the Men In Black have a superior goal differential.

The Vodafone Labasa-Vodafone Ba is expected to be played next Saturday at Subrail Park in Labasa.

The teams:

Lautoka- Laisenia Tuba, Shivneel Kumar (George Makasi), Ilaitia Nukurawa, Solomoni Niulevu, Marika Madigi (Isikeli Jeke Keli), Leone Vurukania, Arvindra Naidu, Jone Vono, Muele Vuti (Shalesh Sami Bula), Samuela Drudru, Malakai Waqa.

Labasa- Azmat Begg, Taniela Waqa, Samuela Kautoga, Henry Dyer, Menuesi Senibuli (Ajesh Narayan), Amani Makoe, Taione Bola (Mira Sahib), Alvin Avinesh, Nemani Rasiga, Roy Krishna, Joseph Nimariau (Kushal Naicker).

Referee: Leone Rakoroi

On the contrary, Ba Rewa match was fixed. Ba has promised accommodation for food to Rewa for IDC. That was a fixed match. 2-1 just to ensure no one feels it was fixed. That's how Ba wins!

The new era of Fiji soccer is about Lions roaring. The soccer competition in Fiji does not get any better than a final between Lions and MIB. That is the ultimate. Whether the Lions roar or the MIB blow, it will be an orgist performance. It will be the climax. Best wishes to Lions and MIB !!

k06sharma, you are the biggest idiot and big mouth I have ever come across. Can you prove your allegations? You did the same thing when Labasa lost to Navua.

There is nothing more fearful than the roar of the Lions. The Lions rule the jungle; for everyone else, there is the hideout!!
