Madigi to bolster Nadi’s IDC campaign
September 12, 2008

The Nadi soccer side has started off early with its IDC preparation and has roped in former Fiji rep Ravuama Madigi to coach the side in the prestigious and most anticipated tournament.

The Jetsetters who finished as runners up last season, have been further boosted with a lucrative sponsorship from Shariff Investments, the sponsors of the recent Muslim tourney in Nausori.

Nadi soccer boss Jitendra Kumar said the timely sponsorship and the services of Madigi were a blessing in disguise for the association as it built up for the tournament.

“We are serious about the IDC as it is the biggest tournament on the local scene and like all other districts, we also want to win the title, he said.

“The sponsorship by Shariff Investments will enable us to prepare thoroughly for the tournament and I would like to thank Mr Shariff for coming forward and sponsoring the team.

“Yes, Madigi has been approached and will coach the team for the IDC and our remaining Super 6 matches.

“He has coached Nasinu, Suva and Rewa previously and has produced impressive results and with his playing and coaching experience, the players will gain a lot.

“We have a blend of young and experienced players in the squad and with proper training and guidance they can win the title.

Meanwhile, the Nadi soccer team went down to the touring Sunshine Coast Football Club from Queensland 2-0 in a friendly encounter last night at Prince Charles Park.

The Australian club which recently won the Queensland Soccer League is on vacation in Fiji and is likely to play at least one more match in the western division before flying back to the land down under.

According to Kumar, the match was used as a build up to Nadi’s league match against Lautoka on Saturday and to try out the younger players in the squad.

The VEnergy Nadi-Lautoka match kicks off at 7.30pm at Vodafone Prince Charles Park in Nadi.
