Fiji soccer builds up for 2014
September 07, 2008

With chances to feature in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa disappearing into thin air, the Fiji soccer management has begun its campaign for the 2014 event with the current squad that featured against Vanuatu in the weekend to be retained for the next four seasons.

Fiji soccer coach Juan Carlos Buzzetti believes his young squad has the potential to make it to the 2014 World Cup and wants to maintain it in the coming years to boost Fiji’s chances in the qualifiers.

“This is basically my squad for 2014 World Cup and with most of the players maturing further till then, our chances will be better in the qualifiers, said Buzzetti.

“Most the players in the squad right now are in the 23-24 age groups and in with more competitive experience in the next four years; they will certainly hold the experience and confidence.

“We have a very effective development plan and should things fall in place, then Fiji would be a force to reckon come the 2014 playoffs and the main tournament itself.

“I am not a miracle maker and the Fiji public should understand that it takes time to build things and once the foundation is laid then things normally take off well and this is what I have been doing in the past two seasons, trying my utmost best to lay the foundation for development all across the country.

“The geographical location of our districts somewhat hinders our development work but this is not an obstacle as the technical department does all it can and works closely with the development heads and the respective development officers in the zones to monitor the happenings in the various districts.

“Good things come with time and I am humbly asking all football lovers to rally their support behind Fiji FA and its technical team instead of criticizing it as the best efforts are put in place for the betterment of the sport in the country” he added.

Fiji currently lies on the second last spot on the points table and needs to beat Vanuatu in its away match this Wednesday to better its standing and also needs to record an impressive result against top guns New Zealand in its last group match on November 19 in Fiji.

New Zealand has topped the Oceania region after its convincing 3-1 victory over New Caledonia in Noumea in the weekend.

The National Team is selected by the coach(from overseas)and a panel of selectors from all over Fiji. The chosen players are the best players available for selection. It seems like there is BA verses the rest of Fiji (mainly Labasa fans). Just because BA is doing exceptionally well compared to them. Its just JEALOUSY!! 11 players in a team against 11, so where does favouritism come in. Stand up against Sahu Khan in the next FFA election, win and make changes. No use just barking and putting officials and other districts down!

I agree with all of you, Its time for DOC, to step down, We will never achieve anything under his leadership Its about time district officials fie vote of no confidence against this Dictator, We have legends like Abdul Mannan,Tagi Vonolagi but they never got chance to work in FFA, coz they were not 4rm BA,,

I fully support hkhan3. Unless Sahu Khan realize's he is responsible for Fiji Soccer's downfall nothing will be achieved by this so called self interested officials. I don't care who win's IDC, Bog, etc..but what I care or dream is Fiji Soccer improve and start beating the Pacific neighbours with ease like we did in 10-15 years ago. Lots have been said about the officials and none so far resigned with shame. Simple business rule...If a company don't make profit then the first to be fired will be the Boss (Manager) and I can't understand why Sahu Khan is still the president.

Our national team coach clearly does not understand the local rivalry. You will NEVER get 100% support from fans if you keep selecting players just from a few districts. This rivalry and rancor is further intensified by the biased efforts of FFA and her boss (Dr. Sahu Khan) in uplifting and cuddling a few favored districts. Unless this changes, neither anything will change, nor anything will be achieved in Fiji soccer.

I realize now why Sahu Khan is not giving up, he thinks he is doing a wonderful job since BA is winning almost everything. Good job Sahu Khan keep up the job, who cares if one day Fiji Finish's last they are (FFA Officials) happy as long as BA is winning. Changes will come if BA stops winning

You guys are pathetic, everything that is done on the field or off the field it drags Ba in why?.

If one district is playing good soccer then other should try to improve look at Labasa, even though it hasn't won much this year but its almost the best team of Fiji. If they can improve up to Ba standards then the rest of Fiji can. Oh one more thing the nation team is not picked by district its picked by merits or capabilities of the player, which shows that in the Fiji team most players are from Ba and Labasa reason they are the top temas of Fiji weather you like it or not.Grow up those who just like to blame others.
