Buzzetti calls for more commitment
September 07, 2008

Fiji soccer coach Juan Carlos Buzzetti has called for more commitment from players chosen to represent the country.

His call comes after some senior players failed to attend training last week for the two matches against Vanuatu in the World Cup Qualifiers which resulted in Buzzetti opting for a young team in the first leg which Fiji won 2-0.

Former captain Peni Finau opted not to travel to Fiji for the matches despite receiving air tickets from the parent body in advance while Labasa midfielder Alvin Avinesh flew out to Australia to play in a tournament organized by the Fiji community there despite been named in the national squad.

Buzzetti also expressed disappointment with top choice national goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau who joined the camp on Thursday with an injury to his ligament sustained while playing rugby for his Police team last week.

“This is not on and I am calling on the parent body to take necessary action on the players that ignore our calls and have no pride for the nation.

“The players knew fully well they were named and yet they decided to take a casual approach thinking that the management will beg them to train or to join camp but this is not my policy no matter how good a player is,” Buzzetti said.

“I see all players as equal and only love to work with players that show dedication and commitment and are disciplined enough to learn and play football better.

“The squad I currently have is one of the best and I am really satisfied with the players as all are very hardworking and show a lot of promise and commitment.

“Take for example, Malakai Tiwa and Tuimasi Manuca, they both work at the Ba Town Council and wake up early to train from 6-7.30 am daily before getting ready to leave for work and spend more hours in the evening to cover up for the sessions they missed.

“They adjust football with employment pretty well and are very good examples of committed and dedicated players.

“Then there’s Avinesh Swamy, despite not been 100% fit to play due to his injured knee, he still gives in his best and does not give up easily and this is something I admire of these type of players.

“If all players start to have the same level of commitment and discipline then football in the country will certainly move in a much positive manner” added the Uruguayan native.

The Fiji team is currently in camp at the Dr Sahu Khan academy in Ba awaiting its second match against Vanuatu on Wednesday.

The Malakai Tiwa captained side leaves for Port Villa on Tuesday for the away match.

Hey coach why don't u stop crying and stop depending on Ba to always supply players?? I have an idea since ur the "coach for FIJI" who makes big $$$ just put a team together yourself? There's too many raw talented players in Fiji just pull ur head out and build one urself. Just like the Olympians we had back in the days (I still wonder whatever happened to them) Bottom line Clubs like Ba,LTK n many others r always developing young players called "B TEAM" every now n then they would pull players from practice squad (B team) to play in regular games that's development not just sitting back n run to FFA sorry I meant Dr. Sahu Khan not FFA to put a team together for ur international matches!!!!
At least that way u know where ur players r n in what condition n could be withdrawn netime from there clubs/work for int'l matchers.

Send ba team this time as they boast that they are the kings of Fiji soccer instead of collecting players of other teams as so much development of Fiji soccer is only done in ba by Fiji F A.. Go Sahu Khan go...

Yes, commitment and dedication are what is needed for any success. However, if you kill the spirit by considering "some more equal than others", then you will never get true commitment. That is what you are facing Juan. Wake up, and redo the Fiji team. Beating Vanuatu by 2-0 in a game that meant almost nothing is a reflection of nothing !!

Again Ba players seems to lead the way especially in discipline. Its not the Fiji FA favoring these Ba players.

Ba players are the winners on and off the field both. They play the sport from their heart. In Ba, we call this district pride. Even the coach agrees with that.

Anyways all the best to Fiji in their remaining games...

HA sikho Ba players se instead...It is about time credit is given where due.

Ba is one team where there is no kachkach or even if there is (which is highly unlikely) YOU WONT GET TO HEAR IT COZ it is solved in house.

The players are disciplined and take pride in what they do.

Coach Buzzetti should ask for commitment from FFA and himself. Not the players. I don't think the players could have done any better with only a week and a half or two being together. Mr. Buzzetti and FFA should be better organized rather than coming with these kind of excuses.

Yes Buzzetti, you mentioned the names of 3 Ba players showing the dedication, thats how Ba, instill the dedication and commitment in players, not as fans of other district particularly Labasa think that we are helped by Fiji Fa. Dedication is self discipline and can not be helped by any one. Well, at least Fiji will be represented by most Ba players in 2014, we have some hope.

I know when there was a fair distribution of player from most districts, Fiji managed to beat Australia and New Zealand and now when Fiji team is dominated by BA players, it will be only in Sahu Khan's dream Fiji beating Aust & NZ. They can't even beat most of the pacific Countries who were 20 years behind from Fiji in soccer. This is the state of Fiji Soccer under Ba's Sahu Khan.

whatever anyone says fiji soccer will never ever qualify for the world cup playoffs coz they dont have any style of soccer what so ever it is just like the back yard soccer they play ba grows soccer talent in their back yard but only fit for back yard soccer not at international stage
