Fiji U12 grouped with Euro giants
September 05, 2008

The Fiji U12 sid has been drawn n Pool A of the Danone Nations Cup which officially kicks off in Paris tomorrow.

The South Seas Islanders are grouped with Europe giants Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands and Qatar.

Fiji FA chief executive officer said the side has good chances of qualifying for the next stage as it is capable of beating all the teams in its pool.

“Switzerland and Belgium are strong nations but nothing can be taken away from Qatar and Netherlands also so competition will be interesting tomorrow, said Kumar.

“The wins in the two build up games in Malaysia and the remarkable draw against Brazil in a friendly two days ago has given the boys and girls a lot of confidence and Coach Farouk Janeman is trying his best to keep the team focused.

“The team is a well prepared one and is expected to go far in this tournament.

“The Danone Nations Cup brings the world’s best kids in the 10-12 age group and from the word I received from my contingent in France, competition will be intense as all nations will be gunning for top honors” he added.

Of the seven pools, all the top finishers and the best runner up overall will proceed to the second round of competition.

Fiji will play Netherlands in its first match tomorrow.

French internationals Zinedine Zidane, Lillian Thuram, Christian Karembeu and other world renowned football personalities will be part of the official opening in the FIFA sanctioned tournament.
