NF Walker to sign before returning September 02, 2008
Preparation for the Mini Games is already on course but Netball Fiji is still working around the clock to get it’s newly appointed coach Melissa Walker to sign a contract before she leaves for New Zealand later this month.
The former NPC coach who is set to return to New Zealand early next week has been in the country for almost a month.
While the NF needs money to stay on court, executives are hoping to sign up with a new sponsor at the end of this week so that Walker officially accepts her new role.
“We’re waiting for a confirmation on our new sponsors who will be coming on board at the end of the week. Through this sponsorship we’re hoping that Walker will sign her contract before she returns,” NF secretary Tupou Lemeki said.
The former NPC coach conducted a trial over the weekend and selected a 30-member national squad which will represent Fiji at the Mini Games plus a 15-member team to feature in the World Youth Netball Championship in Cook Island next year.
“Despite the financial constrains we’re glad that Walker understands our situation and she’s helping us move forward. She has started with her strategic plans and we’re giving her all the support she needs.”
