Lone Fiji disabled athlete to the Paralympics Games Ranjesh Prakash has vowed to do his best when he makes his debut in Beijing, China next month.
The 19-year-old who is visually-impaired will run in the 100 and 200-metres event.
His coach Sainiana Tukana said Prakash was primed to bring back glory after the Games.
“I am adamant that he will win. He will bring home a medal.”
The Form Four student of DAV College in Nabua, Suva has personal bests of 11.9secs in 100 and 25secs in the 200m.
He won a bronze medal in the 2006 FESPIC Games in Malaysia and in the Arafura Games in Australia.
The Suva student is ranked 5th in the 100m during the 86th Australian Championship in Brisbane early this year.
“He’s been preparing well and part of his build-up was his participation in the Coca-Cola Games and the Fiji Games in March. We don’t want to pressure him about winning but we’re expecting him to better his performance.”
Prakash who will also be the flag bearer to the opening ceremony will be accompanied by Tukana and Doctor Jagdish Maharaj.
They depart tomorrow (Sunday 31/8) morning.
The 2008 Paralympics will be held from September 6-17 at the same venue of the 2008 Olympic Games.
