Walker yet to sign with Netball Fiji August 30, 2008
Netball Fiji officials remain positive that they will finalise contractual agreement with newly appointed coach Melissa Walker before before she returns to New Zealand next week.
The sport is in dire need for cash to pay the former NPC coach.
Walker who is currently in Fiji for almost a month has set up strategies for the Mini Pacific Games and IFNA World Under-21 Championship in Cook Islands next year.
She has started her work in Fiji even before putting pen to paper on her contract.
“We’re positive that she’s going to sign her contract but we don’t know when,” NF secretary Tupou Lemeki said.
“We’re grateful that Walker is here to rebuild the image of Netball in Fiji and she has started some work already even though she hasn’t signed her contract. We want to move ahead with our preparation to the Mini Games and Youth Championship next year. We are on course with our target.”
Walker will be conducting trials today for both the Under-21 and the national side and with no interest shown from the overseas based players, Lemeki remains adamant that Fiji will field a strong squad next year.
“The 60-member national training squad will be reduced to 30 while the final squad for the under-21 will be named after the trials.”
