Fiji Bati coach warns reps on trials August 28, 2008
Fiji Bati coach Josaia Rabele has sent a stern warning to the elite squad to come prepared for the Rugby League World Cup trial tomorrow.
Expecting a strong competition amongst resident players, Rabele said it would not be an easy task to select the best players for the final 17-member squad to feature in the last trials.
“It’s going to be hard because this the final chance for local players to vie for a spot in the Fiji Bati team to the World Cup,” he said.
“There will be a lot of competition amongst the elite players and to select the final 17 will be a challenge.”
The 17 selected from the trial will then feature for the State of the Origin final next month, which will feature overseas-based contracted players.
“To make the selection simple the 17 players selected from the trial will march into camp to prepare for the final trials with the overseas contracted players who will arrive in two weeks,” Rabele said.
“Time is also an element in our preparation so we’re reducing the State of the Origin clash to one match.”
The final trial on September 25 will feature the 17 resident players against the 20 overseas contracted players while those with the Australian Rugby League will be present on the announcement of the RLWC squad on September 27.
