Fiji netball prays for miracle to pay coach August 27, 2008
Netball Fiji is in dire need of cash and is relying on a miracle intervention.
The cash-strapped sport needs money to stay on court and also to pay its new national coach Mellissa Walker who is in the country now.
“The only thing we have so far is the $10,000 donated by the Interim Government. We are hopeful for miracle because we need money,” NF president Milika Munivai said.
NF is in the red and its former president Alice Tabete stayed back in New Zealand after the last World Netball Championships in Auckland.
“We want to move ahead with our preparations for the Mini Games next year and the World Under-21 Championships in the Cook Islands. There is no money so we are stuck with our preparations,” Munivai added.
Meanwhile, Walker is also believed to have her intentions known today on whether she will officially accept her new role under the financial constraints NF is facing.
Walker has been in the country for almost a month and leaves on the weekend after conducting trials on Saturday to select the Fiji squads to the Mini Games and the Under-21 Championships.
“No overseas-based players have shown interest but Walker will select 15 players for the U21 and 30 for the main national team.”
The trials on Saturday would follow a fitness test on Friday in Suva.
