Navua soccer boss Anil Sharma has opted to take civil action against the Labasa Soccer Association for false allegations and defamation of character.
This follows the LSA’s withdrawal of bribery claims against Navua last week.
A disgruntled and disappointed Sharma said the withdrawal shows nothing but the sheer truth that there is no basis in the allegation by Labasa officials and their claims are absolute lies.
“This is not on and I am calling on Fiji FA to take the matter seriously as the Labasa president has just made a mockery of himself and has burdened the parent body which had to borne costs to set up the committee to look into claims, said Sharma.
“I have full faith in the enquiry team and am anxiously awaiting its outcome which somewhat seems to be taking a lot of time to be released.
“If they did not have enough or no evidence at all then why did they come up with such cheap and nonsense allegations?
“I will wait for the outcome of the committee and see what Fiji FA does on the issue before going to the courts to seek justice as I, my players and officials have gone through a lot in the past two months.
“I had even received death threats and had to go through a lot of trauma and if justice is not done to me by the committee and Fiji FA then the long arms of law will definitely be used to bring the issue to rest for once and all.
“Definitely the claim would be based on character defamation as my character as a district official, prominent businessman and above all a law abiding citizen of Navua and Fiji has been defamed by the Labasa president and his officials.
“I am not going to compromise or settle the matter as I have suffered a lot and it would only be nice and fair that the opposition also get the same treatment” he added.
Labasa after the FACT final loss had alleged that Sharma bribed its two players Pita Bolaitoga and Maciu Dunadamu before the match which resulted in the duo’s lacklusture performance.
Dunadamu and Bolaitoga have since moved to Ba and have been named in Fiji training squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Vanuatu next month.
The Fiji FA appointed independent inquiry team is expected to come up with a decision by the end of this week or early next week.

This is very sad. I wish this had never happened. Whether bribery ever happened or not will be very difficult to prove. If cash was transferred from one hand to another, it may never be proven (and this is the most likely scenario). However, if it was a large sum of money, like $10,000 or more, then it is likely that it was withdrawn from some bank (or samller amounts from multiple banks). So, one may need to "follow the money trail". I am sure the independent inquiry committe is very much aware of these kinds of tricks. We will see what the independent inquiry committe comes up with. However, in these types of cases, one has to remember that "abscence of evidence is NOT evidence of abscence". Just because you couldn't prove it, does not mean it never happened.

Good one Mr Sharma...bring Labasa to justice.
It's a big shame for Labasa football. Their happy days are nearly over...
They lost Fiji Fact, BOG, protest...and bribary claim and some more to follow...
Labasians, again blame FFA and Ba football for this...

Bring it on Mr. Sharma. This is only going to prove the stipulates and unprofessional ism of Labasa Officials, players and Fans. The defamation can easily proved by the stupid comments the Labasa fans made on Fiji Live. Go for Kill Mr. Sharma and bring on KO"666" as well

Mr Sharma, stop this BS talk. If you are so clean than what happen you were trying to brooker a deal between Labasa/Lautoka in BOG. It is common knowledge that u bribed but as all know it will be difficult to proove it. So LSA withdrew it was a blessing in disguise for you. you you continue to push, u might open a can of worms. Remember the money you enjoying and making this big remarks was the sweat of another Lambasia Late Shri Dhannu Prasad. You were not even able to bring his dead body from NZ but were just too eager to claim his life insurance. Your days are numbered
