Under-21 and Fiji Netball assistant coaches have been urged to map out their strategies to prepare for international outing next year.
Following the recent appointment of New Zealand based Melissa Walker to coach the national and under-21 side, Netball Fiji council have appointed Una Rokoura and Sala Drasuna to look after the national side while Alumeci Vosararawa and Taina Rabitu have been tasked to assist in the under-21 build-up to the World Youth Championship in Cook Islands.
NF president Milika Munivai said that time is an element to their build-up and they need to set a benchmark before Walker arrives.
“We can’t wait for Walker to come and do everything; so we need to start working to make her job easier. We’ve conducted the trials, drafted training programs and I’ve advised the assistant coaches to start sketching their approach. We’re grateful that Walkers is willing to help by giving the assistant coaches the guidelines,” Munivai said.
National selectors will also be out scouting at the MH Netball series and any player found to impressive will be drafted to the extended training squad.
“There was not much response from the trials so we’ve asked the national selectors to come out and scout at the MH series. Outstanding players will be drafted in the under-21 and national side.”
The MH netball series will be held in Suva this week while the last round of the games will be played in Lautoka next week.
