Ba for celebrated India soccer tourney July 02, 2008
Fiji Football giants, Ba will add another chapter to their history books when it becomes the first Fijian team ever to compete in India’s oldest and most prestigious tournament.
The Men in Black have been invited to be part of the Durand Cup from August 17 to September 10.
This is after they were invited to be part of the tournament earlier this season.
The Fijian champions of 2007 have started their preparations for their much looked forward tourney.
Ba soccer boss Rishi Kumar said they were honoured and privileged to be invited to the tournament which would feature top Indian and a couple of selected clubs from overseas.
“It is really an honour for us to be invited to such a prestigious and famous tournament in India, said Kumar.
“We will not represent Ba only but the nation as a whole and are calling on the people both at home and in overseas to rally behind the boys as we take on the best in India in August.
“Our preparations are going on well and our committee will be meeting tomorrow to discuss on the latest progress for the tour.
“The tournament will act as a good exposure for the players ahead of the IDC and the O League competition in which Ba will feature for the third year in a row” he added.
Durand Cup is the oldest football tournament in India. It was started by Sir Motimer Durand at Simla, India, in 1888.
This football tournament is the third oldest football tournament after the English and the Scottish FA Cups.
The tournament has been played in New Delhi since 1940.
Following a major transformation in 2006, the tournament’s prize money, TV coverage and the quality of the football souvenirs produced have improved dramatically.

Are they (people who invited Ba) and the administrator of this article blind calling Ba the champions of Fiji. The true champs are Labasa. Ba is representing Ba and not whole of Fiji

Congratulations to Ba boys.My advice is dont under estimate the teams in India. Some clubs like Dempo and east Bengal and Mahendra united are very professional in their approach and are very well deciplined.Ba would be a great Embassador for Fiji and Fiji football. My only advice is to seek some overseas technical help maybe over couple of weeks.Anyways GOOD LUCK BOYS<

Its a bitter pill for nz-gentleman to swallow. BA is the champion. by winning one or two tournaments every 10 years doesnot make labasa a Champion, and yes it good that Labasa is not invited otherwise Indians will buy all the players from Labasa??
Good Luck MIB, your achievment in Fiji Soccer in only a dream for other teams, it is impossible for ant team to match that in this millennium. We all MIB fans are very proud.

I am a Labasa fan but the achievement BA has gained no team can match that. Its the fact. Teams have to be consistent like BA to match them. Good luck to BA. We were supporting BA when they were playing waitakere united in O League in auckland, that means if any team from fiji plays a overseas team we have to support them even though you are from a different district.

bhanp - Ba has failed miserably in all international tournaments - Indian teams will teach them soccer. nz-gentleman, the media is still in history!

Whose current champion?? Which team won champion vs champion??? I think people are educated enough to atleast realise why iam asking this... winning CVC is considered that team the champion for that year right until next CVC series is played....iam i right o not???
