Fiji goalkeeper Azmat Begg featured upfront in the team’s fifth match of the 2008 OFC FUTSAL Championships in Suva tonight against Tuvalu and scored a brace of goals as Fiji walloped Tuvalu 13-3.
The match just served as a formality for the two sides as both are out after losing their earlier matches.
The win was Fiji’s second in the tournament as the host nation opened its campaign on a high note against New Caledonia by winning 4-2 after which it fell victim to the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Tahiti, losing all the three matches consecutively.
Striker Kamal Hassan featured strongly upfront and scored a massive total of eight goals in the game while captain Mira Sahib, Ashish Chand, Sandeep Nair and Begg were also able to find the net in the team’s biggest victory of the tournament.
Fiji coach Intiaz Khan was happy with the win and said the win against Tuvalu has set the platform for their final match against New Zealand which the host aim to win to restore some pride.
“We will field a strong team against New Zealand tomorrow and want to finish on a positive note as hosts of the tournament.
“Fiji has recorded two wins and will be out to better its ranking on the table on the last day of the tournament and we will throw our very beat against the Kiwis” said Khan.
Fiji and New Zealand will feature in the last match of the tournament tomorrow at 8pm.
