| Michalak signs three-year deal with Toulouse May 18, 2008
France international fly-half Frederic Michalak has signed a three-year deal with his former club Toulouse, according to the French Top 14 club's website Thursday. Michalak left Toulouse, for whom he had played the past six previous seasons, last year to join South African Super-14 side Coastal Sharks. According to Toulouse the Frenchman will return to Toulouse in October, once he has finished playing for the Sharks in their Currie Cup campaign. After days of speculation on his eventual return to France, the 25-year-old player told L'Equipe newspaper he has now made up his mind. "A lot of clubs came up with great offers, as much on the sporting as the financial level. I've always felt very close to Toulouse, but I still needed a bit of time to consider my options, to decide," said Michalak. Michalak, who has won 50 caps for France, is reported to have received offers from Biarritz, second division side Toulon and from several English clubs. He is currently sidelined until the end of July with a left knee ligament injury. Michalak has made 147 appearances for Toulouse and racked up 493 points on the way to winning the domestic league in 2001 and the European Cup on two occasions in 2003 and 2005. Toulouse officials were overjoyed at having successfully lured Michalak back to his home club. "The history between Frederic Michalak and Toulouse could not end on such as sad note" as Toulouse's elimination in the semi-final of the Top 13 by Clermont on June 2, 2007, the club said on its website. "Contacted by other clubs, Fred chose to return to the club where he learned rugby, Toulouse. It's with the Red and Blacks that he won fantastic honours." AFP
