Fiji Under-20 rugby coach Rayne Simpson is a hard man to persuade when it comes to game tactics.
He has put a lock on his team combination to avoid the prying eyes of the media and opponents in the forthcoming IRB Junior World Championship in Wales next month.
“That is a secret because we do not want to spoil months of hard training by letting the world know how we will play. We will show that on the field,” he added.
“The hard and entertaining Fijian flair will be there but we have perfected our own style in the past months so that we could be competitive against Tier One nations,” the Savusavu born coach said.
“We will be dangerous because we want to win the World Cup. We have good players who could match other top teams.”
Simpson named his 26-member team yesterday with Highlanders’ U20 skipper Jese Cirikisuva as captain. He will be assisted by Knights scrumhalf Vuga Tagicakibau.
“It was a difficult to name the team,” Simpson said.
“It was a long selection process. We had a good number of fitness and endurance tests done, a considerable number of camps and had the players divided into two teams and played against each other before we could make our pick.”
“We are looking forward to three warm-up matches starting with Tonga tomorrow. We will travel to Sydney to play Australia next week (May 25) before facing North Surburb Colts on May 28.”
