Costume competition to liven festive mood
March 05, 2008

In a bid to create an atmosphere of international sevens, organizers of the 32nd Fiji Biter Marist sevens tournament have introduced a costume competition which is expected to be a draw card for the annual event.

Since the inception of the event, organizers will for the first time allocate prizes for the costume competition in which expected to be the highlight of the event apart from the live rugby action itself.

“Our sponsorship increases by $1000 every year and this year we’ve decided to have costume competitions for the spectators just to bring in an international atmosphere. So far the response has been positive from business houses to some local cheering squad and it’s expected to be the highlights of the event,” tournament coordinator Vilikesa Rauca said.

A total of 42 teams will receive cash prizes while $1000 has been allocated for the winner of the U19 competition. The best player and the fastest players of the tournament would be recognized.

“We’re trying to make the tournament the biggest sevens carnival in Fiji. We’ll select the fastest players from each team and they’ll run 100m race to determine the fastest player. We’ll also have recovery tent and ice baths while each player named for the Digicel sevens team will receive gift from the Marist rugby club.”

The two day 32nd Fiji Bitter Marist sevens is set to kick off on Friday.
