The Fiji sevens side has added another gold medal to Team Fiji's tally when they defeated Samoa 26-19 in the finals this afternoon in the Pacific Games.
The side came lead 19-5 at halftime after a heavy hit out in the first half.
Nasoni Roko broke through the second half with a try but that was as far as Fiji went as Samoa came through with two unconverted tries.
Roko sinbinned in the last three minutes of the game was the advantage Samoa needed to increase their lead by seven and win the gold.
However, a forward pass just five meters from the try line kept the Samoans at grasping length from the gold medal with the referee blowing the whistle for fulltime much to Fiji's delight.
"I am very proud of my boy's performance, they stuck it out until the last whistle," said Fiji coach Jo Savou.
"We wanted to win, that was our aim when we cane out here. Samoa game us a good game, their defence struck out well."
This is Savou's first win as the national coach following Waisale Serevi's resignation earlier this year.
