Savusavu escape with a draw in PR opener

By Sunil Sharma

Savusavu came from a goal down to hold  Tailevu  Naitasiri  to a 1-all draw in the opening leg of the promotion relegation series at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori today.

Both sides tired their best to find the nett in the first half but poor finishing saw scores remain at 0-0 at half-time.

Tailevu Naitasiri broke the deadlock via a 50th minute goal via Apisai Vorara

Savusavu hit back with the equaliser through a left foot drive from Manoa Pio in the 53rd minute.

Tailevu Naitasiri boss Sundeep Roy said his defence lacked concentration which allowed Savusavu to score the goal.

“They were still celebrating from taking the early lead when Sausavu took advantage to score. We have to go back to the drawing board for the return leg,” Roy said.

Savusavu president, Gopendra Narayan was satisfied with the draw.

“I’m happy after doing well to hold Tailevu Naitasiri. They were the better side. We will need to go back and iron out mistakes for the return leg.

“Fitness is another area we will need to address.”

The return leg will be played at 3pm next Sunday at Ganilau Park.
