New Lions coach wants committed players September 07, 2010

Newly appointed Labasa football coach Bal Sanju Reddy is confident of guiding the Babasiga Lions to impressive wins in the remaining National League fixtures and the upcoming Inter District Championship.
The Labasa school teacher who is no stranger to Labasa football, having coached the district team since 2005 was appointed on Sunday night after the dismal performance of the team in the National Football League and Battle Of the Giants tournament.
“I am ready to take the team back to where it was some years back,” said Reddy.
“Labasa has some fine talents and there are so many good players to choose from when it comes to selecting the district team.”
“We have developed and supplied players to nearly all the other districts in Fiji and there is still an abundant base of players to choose from.”
“Under my coaching, I developed the eight players that are currently in the Fiji U20 squad and have become household names.”
“I believe in young and committed players and cannot depend on senior players who do not have the pride to represent the district.”
“Last year, I boldly took up the challenge to field a young and new look team and players from that team have gone far.”
“One classic example is Emori Ragata who came out of no where and after playing two or three games for Labasa he ended up in the national team.”
“The executives will give me a pool of players to work with while I will keep an eye on other capable players as well.”
“Currently I will look at the players in the local league as well as those that are part of the Sanatan tournament which will be held in Labasa this week” Reddy added.
Labasa hosts Nadi in the Fiji Sun/Weet Bix National Football League this Saturday at Subrail Park. The match kicks off at 1pm.
