The Labasa Football Association will hold a special meeting tonight to discuss ways of bettering the team’s performance and taking the district forward in a positive direction.
Following the dismal performance of the team in the Battle Of the Giants and their unexpected 3-0 loss to Nasinu in the National Football League yesterday, nine senior players and some officials have been summoned to appear before the disciplinary committee of the association tomorrow evening.
Interim Labasa president and Fiji FA vice president Sheik Ibrahim said the meeting tonight was open to the members of the public who he feels have all the right to know about the affairs of the team.
“In the meeting tonight, we will look at ways in which to improve the team and the selection base of players,” he said.
“The people of Labasa are unhappy with the BOG performance and the result of the game against Nasinu has made things worse as we had the best possible team on the field.”
“We want to totally clean up the house and get things in order before the Inter District Championship next month.”
“The fans and well wishers of the team are with me and together we will work out ways to better our reputation and take Labasa Football back to where it was in the past. This season we made a very strong start but as the season progressed, things started to fall out of place.”
“We have already made a coaching appointment and former coach Bal Sanju Reddy is back at helm and will be coaching the team for the reminder of the season.”
“He is an experienced coach and we have full faith and confidence in him.”
Ibrahim when questioned about the issues that will be discussed in the disciplinary meeting and name of the players and officials involved failed to divulge any details and said he will be in a better position to make a comment after the meeting.
A source who wished not to be named told Fijilive that the Fiji U20 players in the Labasa team are also likely to appear before the committee apart from the other players and officials.
It is believed the Fiji U20 players sneaked out of the Labasa camp during the BOG in Nadi to represent the Labasa Sangam U19 team at the Secondary Schools IDC which was held at Churchill Park over the same weekend.
The players returned to camp just in time for the pool matches against Ba and Rewa, games which the Babasiga Lions lost badly. Both Ba and Rewa scored four goals against Labasa to send the northerners out of the tournament.
Coach Epeli Levaci who highlighted the absence of local league competition and too much influence on the team from the officials was given the axe earlier last week.
Labasa is scheduled to play Nadi in the Fiji Sun/Weet-Bix National Football League this weekend.
