Works get underway for Suva academy March 19, 2010
The Fiji Football Association held the official first stage cement pouring function of their Suva academy in Vatuwaqa yesterday.
Doing the honors were Fiji Football president Dr Muhammad Shamsud-din Sahu Khan, the chairman of the Lomaiviti Provincial Council, Ratu Jolame Lewanavanua and other members of the football fraternity.
The $500.000 (US$) Fiji Goal 2 project which will house the Fiji FA headquarters, training and camping facilities alongside a lecture hall is expected to complete by the end of this year.
In his address, Dr Sahu Khan said the project will be a highlight to the world showing what football is all about in Fiji.
“We are grateful to FIFA for assisting us in getting this project forward and this Academy will benefit the people of the southern division in many ways.”
“We will have the best training, camping and other facilities and the academy will act as an important tool for youth development in the country.”
“The development officers will be well equipped and should find no problems in conducting development work and organizing activities.”
“Fiji FA is also thankful to the government, the Suva City Council and the football fraternity at large for their support and cooperation.”
“The project should end in nine or so months and we really want to see everything complete by the end of this year as FIFA also wants to see the project completed on time” added Dr Khan.
The Suva academy is the second Goal project for Fiji with the Dr MS Sahu Khan academy in Ba been the first one to be funded under the project.
Making facilities is good but you need right people (coaches) to do work in the ground. S Ali is doing a good job but I think he needs more support. Tagi would be a good choice for development.

Why wasting money to built the second academy in Suva? With one already in ba which is good enough for a small country like fiji. If fiji football has extra money give to poor people who suffered in hurricane tomas. The reason fiji dont need is in one year fiji ranking is drop from 108 to 133. Please give money to poor people, they need it right now, soccer is not going anywhere in fiji.

Fiji football only knows IDC, BOG, FIJI FACT and the National League where money can be made, but not to go overseas and play there to improve soccer standards. Fiji soccer standard is worse then under 18s in lots of countries.
