NFL Round 4 review: Blues stretch lead March 16, 2010
Defending champion Lautoka has taken the lead in the National Football League after registering two impressive victories in round 4.
Lautoka has maximum 15 points from their five matches.
The Blues scored a massive 10 ten goals in their matches against Tavua (7) and Nasinu (3) without considering any to reflect their consistency in the CJ Patel sponsored competition.
Star striker Kamal Hassan scored five goals in the round to take his goal scoring tally in the NFL to 12 goals.
Labasa which enjoyed the lead in the first three rounds has slipped to second spot but the northerners have played one match less and were on a bye in round 4.
Former champion Ba proved critics wrong with their power packed performance against a high flying Rewa side and accounted for the visitors 4-1 in the feature match of the weekend.
Nippy midfielder Rinal Prasad proved that size does not matter and was the toast of the Men In Black, netting two goals in the match.
The win was also the first for Farouk Janeman and his panel which included Semi Tabaiwalu and Ravinesh Kumar.
IDC champs Navua managed to bag their first win of the NFL after beating Tavua 2-0 at Garvey Park. The win certainly should boost the spirit of the southerners who haven’t been having a good outing this season.
The Fiji U20 side also showed a lot of improvement in round 4 and came from behind to hold Nadroga 2-2 in their fixture. Labasa youngsters Ilisoni Logaivou and Misaele Draunibaka were the key players for the Zulfikar Khan coached side in the match.
Suva after suffering an embarrassing 0-3 loss to Labasa bounced back to register a narrow 1-0 victory over Nadi, leaving the Jetsetters winless after four rounds of competition.
With this weekend’s matches called off because of the devastation caused by hurricane Tomas to the Fiji group, the districts will get ample time to prepare for their games which will now be played next weekend.
In round 5, Labasa will host Ba, Rewa will travel to Lautoka, Navua will play Nasinu and Fiji U20, Tavua will host Nadi while Suva will clash against Nadroga.
