Fiji FA calls off National League matches March 16, 2010
The Fiji Football Association has called off all the National Football League fixtures scheduled for this weekend due to the effects of hurricane Tomas.
This was confirmed by Fiji FA competitions manager Jainendra Sukhu who said the decision was made after an emergency meeting of the National League Board in Suva this afternoon.
“In view of the hurricane, following an emergency meeting today it has been decided that the fifth round of Fiji Sun Weet Bix National Football League has been postponed to next weekend” said Sukhu. “All the districts have been affected in one way or the other and will find it very hard to assemble a team for their matches this weekend so we decided to postpone the fixtures so the districts can recover by next week and have their matches played then.”
“The various grounds have also been affected due to severe rain and strong winds and we will need an update from the host districts before the games go on next weekend.”
A total of six matches were lined up for the weekend with Labasa vs Ba and Lautoka vs Rewa been the two major highlights of round 5.
Lautoka leads the CJ Patel sponsored National Football League with 15 points and is followed by Labasa, Ba and Rewa.
