Leonardo expecting United to seek KO blow
March 10, 2010

AC Milan coach Leonardo expects Manchester United to go for his side's jugular in Wednesday's Champions League clash at Old Trafford.

With a 3-2 lead from the first leg, United could opt to try and defend their advantage but a cagey approach would come as a major surprise to the Milan boss.

"I don't see them doing that," he said. "Big teams don't change their style fundamentally. They might make little adjustments but I can't seem them making radical changes. With United it is pretty much the same game whether they are at home or away."

With an open game in prospect, Leonardo voiced confidence about his side's prospects of overturning their deficit, even if that will require scoring two goals at least in a match in which one goal for United would probably be fatal to their chances of reaching the last eight.

"Even in the first leg there were many positive aspects to the way we played," the Brazilian added. "We were playing well before and have played well since that game.

"I think it will be more about approach and attitude than tactics. We just have to go out and make the most of our opportunites.

"The first leg could have 1,000 different outcomes. In the end we lost 3-2 but we still have a chance and the tie."

Leonardo declined to offer any indication as to whether David Beckham would be involved in what, if he gets on the pitch, will be the first time he has faced United at Old Trafford since leaving his former club in 2003.

"David is an important asset for us for many reasons. We know he has experience and we can call on him if necessary.

"There is no denying it is a big event for him coming back to a place where he achieved so much. But he is extremely experienced and, knowing him, I am sure he will be able to cope.

"For him it is something very, very special to have the opportunity to play against Manchester United with his history here. He is very important for us, for the group he is very important, independent of what happens tomorrow. To have him in situations like that, sure he can help us."
