Fiji's Champion Versus Champion series will be played under a new format in the new season.
This time around, the winners of all the major tournaments will get a chance to feature in the series unlike previous years whereby only the National League and the Inter District Championship (IDC) winners faced off with each other.
The new format which was motioned by Navua Football Association during the Fiji FA Annual Congress in Nadi last month was discussed and approved by the Board Of Control (BOC) of the parent body during its meeting in Suva over the weekend.
The new format will see Fiji FACT and IDC champion Navua playing National League winner Lautoka and Battle Of the Giants winner Ba on a home and away basis with the team finishing the series with the most number of points walking away with the Champions title.
Fiji FA chief executive officer Bob Kumar confirmed the change and said majority of the districts supported Navua’s motion during the congress and the board has also given its green light to the new format.
“The motion filed by Navua stated that winners of all the tournaments should be allowed to play the CVC as it is a series for the champions and not only two champions should be allowed to play but all should be given the chance.”
“Majority supported the motion and the board has also approved it so the new format will allow all the winners to play in the series and the initial series will have three districts only as Navua won two titles” said Kumar.
Ba has won the CVC title most number of times and the Men In Black despite losing the IDC and National League have been given the lifeline with the introduction of the new format.
