Fijian giants, Shop and Save Lautoka Blues have extended their lead on the points table in Group B of the O League after registering their second consecutive away win yesterday in Port Moresby.
They now have the comfort of playing their remaining three matches on home soil before flying to Port Villa for their final group fixture in March next year.
Lautoka despite a goal down at halftime came back strongly in the second spell to score goals through strikers Valerio Nawatu and Apisai Smith to clinch the famous victory at the Rugby League Oval.
Just in their first season in Oceania’s version of the Champions League, the Blues have shown fine form in both matches and look to maintain their consistency as they shift their focus to home matches.
With players like Salesh Kumar, Nahuel Arrarte, James Chronopoulous, Kamal Hassan, Valerio Nawatu, Keni Doidoi, Samuela Vula, Samuela Kautoga and Smith in their fold, Coach Imdad Ali should not find it difficult to build a stronger combination for their next match against Tafea FC of Vanuatu on the 29th of this month at Churchill Park.
Tafea FC who also played yesterday against Marist was able to register a 2-0 victory at Lawson Tama Stadium to move to second spot with four points.
Meanwhile, Waitakere United kicked things off with a solid 2-0 home victory against a well-organised AS Manu Ura at Fred Taylor Park in Auckland yesterday taking them to the top of Group A.
Impressive win but then any team which includes Aussie players have an upper hand in playing with our Pacific brothers. Shame Lautoka can't have 11 Fiji born players and playing with their own city boyz seems to be miles away.
